I often wondered as i enjoyed this lovely lush waterfront park off Blind Pass Road on St Pete Beach florida.
St. Pete Beach Mayor Ward Friszolowski, who succeeded McKenney, said the former mayor will be best remembered for his commitment to parks and recreation. He pushed for the city's popular gymnasium and helped develop Blind Pass Park and Egan Park, among others.
"When welcoming a group into the city at the TradeWinds resort in 1989, Mr. McKenney, then the mayor, sensed a receptive crowd."
"So I did about 20 minutes," he recalled. "People came up to me later and said, "You were funny. For a while we really thought you were the mayor.' I couldn't convince them I was."
Mr. McKenney moved to St. Pete Beach to join a radio station in 1959. He later started a public relations and advertising agency, McKenney & Associates."
